Volunteer Mentors - Youth Mental Health (C4Y) Program, Melton
Give a young person every advantage by becoming a supportive and guiding mentor, as they take positive steps to connect with their community.

Whitelion's vision is for a world where no young person is left behind, where all young people have the right to equitable opportunities to reach their potential. We exist to build positive connections and pathways to work for young people at risk. Success depends on the voice and lived experience of highly vulnerable, high risk young people, systems around them and the Whitelion community.
About the role
The Community for Youth Mental Health (C4Y) program assists young people who are connecting with headspace Melton, and need support with their interests, goals and social connections. This is a 6-month pilot program with a possibility of extension.
One of the most important aspects of the program are the volunteers. As a C4Y Volunteer Mentor, you will be matched to a young person (mentee) through a process that carefully considers your personal attributes, interests and experiences.
You will then provide one-on-one consistent, regular and positive role model support and guidance, ensuring that the young person is able to access and pursue positive interests, hobbies or activities within their community.
Ideally you will have lived experience of handling life stressors and ready to share your experiences with young people for them to benefit from.
About you
You will bring the following personal competencies and attributes to the role:
- You are friendly, engaging and able to establish communication with a young person in a non-judgmental manner.
- You are open to learning from young people and able to recognise their unique perspective, experiences and contributions.
- You have good awareness of your capabilities and will confidently ask for support and guidance when needed including when ethical challenges may arise.
- You remain calm under pressure and are open to receiving and discussing feedback.
- You understand or have experience in setting and maintaining professional boundaries
- You can recognize your feelings and prejudices and manage your emotions appropriately in a range of sensitive or challenging situation
- You have a high degree of integrity and you understand the importance of maintaining strict confidentiality and always respecting the privacy of young people.
In addition to these competencies you will be available to commit to regular contact with a young person over a 12-month period, as well as attending monthly supervision meetings with your program coordinator (generally online).
Applicants must live within 45 minutes drive to Melton.
